About Me
Researcher, software engineer, and educator passionate about the empirical evaluation of software systems, AI for software engineering, and sustainable machine learning.
I'm Vincenzo De Martino, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC-BarcelonaTech) within the Software and Service Engineering Group (GESSI) in Barcelona, Spain. Previously, I earned my European Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from the University of Salerno (Italy) at the Software Engineering and Systems Analysis Laboratory (SeSa Lab) under the supervision of Prof. Fabio Palomba.
My research operates at the junction of Empirical Software Engineering, Software Maintenance and Evolution, and Software Quality, with a focal specialization in Software Engineering for AI (SE4AI), AI for Software Engineering (AI4SE), and Sustainable / Green AI.
Key Profile Highlights
Core Research Directions
SE4AI & AI4SE
Designing robust engineering frameworks for machine-learning-enabled systems, exploring prompt engineering methodologies (PRIMES), and mining software repositories with modern LLMs.
Green & Sustainable AI
Investigating real-world adoption of green architectural tactics, assessing computational overheads, and evaluating multi-dimensional sustainability trade-offs (environmental, social, and economic).
Software Quality & Maintenance
Uncovering the lifecycle and persistence of Deep Learning-specific technical debt (SATD), classifying non-functional requirements in ML systems, and developing quality assurance recommenders.
Beyond Academia
Gaming Enthusiast
Long-time video game fan with a special passion for FromSoftware 'souls-like' challenges and intricate game lore.
Cinema & Series
Enthusiastic viewer of immersive fantasy sagas (Game of Thrones) as well as classic sitcoms (How I Met Your Mother).
Manga & Anime
Avid follower of Japanese storytelling and worldbuilding, with Eiichiro Oda's One Piece occupying the top spot.
